Rijksmuseum Boerhaave is the national museum of science and medicine. Through its world-renowned collection of scientific and medical instruments, the museum tells the stories of groundbreaking Dutch discoveries and inventions and their impact on our lives today.

We use our unique collection to illustrate key developments in science, highlight their influence on daily life, and inspire new generations to develop their talents.
Our vision
In a society where scientific and technological advancements are accelerating, we see it as our mission to engage people with these developments and showcase their origins. This fosters a deeper understanding of science and the remarkable achievements in research and innovation.
The future
It is the crowning achievement of our work that the renovated museum has won the prestigious museum prize, the European Museum of the Year Award 2019. But a museum is never finished. This is a wonderful foundation for taking an extra step in depth and maintaining this high level. In the coming years, we will connect the museum's illustrious collection and history even more with current affairs and social discussions about the pressing questions of today, under the motto Stage for the future. We will elaborate on this in the Strategic Plan and the Activities Plan (in Dutch).

Expansion of the museum
Rijksmuseum Boerhaave is working on plans to expand the museum with a new building. For this purpose, the museum is acquiring the location of Het Kijkhuis, which will leave their building in the Vrouwenkerksteeg in some time. he location will be added to the museum in 2028 at the earliest.
