Sickness & Health
The story of innovations in medicine: from bloodletting to blood transfusion and from amputations to complex transplants.

About Sickness & Health
In the exhibition Sickness & Health you will discover the fascinating world of medical inventions and innovations. From bloodletting to blood transfusions and from amputations to complicated transplants, you will follow the impressive developments in medicine.
Medical changes
Learn about the changes in childbirth and marvel at the iron lung, an artificial lung in which the patient lay from the neck down. A bellows ensured that the air pressure rose and fell alternately, making breathing possible.

Innovations & dilemmas
Discover the very first artificial kidney, a machine built during World War II. This special machine was made of wooden slats, a bicycle chain, rubber hoses, a second-hand sewing machine engine, the cooling system of a car and aluminum from a shot-down airplane.
You will also be challenged to think about the difficult dilemmas that the medicine of the future will bring: from memory chips in your brain to an endless life. Would you dare?
